Hi Everyone

Hello, and welcome! Glad that you joined us! Yes, some rooster's can be like that, and I am glad that mine has never tried to attack me.

Thank you! I'm enjoying being here. You're all wonderful and welcoming!

It's definitely no fun getting spurred (or he attempted) by the little roo I was cuddling only that morning!!
He actually went through my jeans with his beak. Yeah, not fun. Still love him though. I can still see it (PTSD?) A very colourful flying ninja!!!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens, Wendy! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost!:highfive: Removing aggressive cockerels isn't always the correct solution. Yours sounds as if he will be easy to work with. My aggressive cockerel thought he had dominated me one day until I had kicked him back into place. Now stepping into his personal space every so often turned him into a very respectful rooster. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

Thank you very much!
This new flock member appreciates every one of you!!
I know this doesn't sounds very gracious; but I'm glad I'm not the only one with an aggressive roo. I too had to protect myself by use of foot. Lol
I do have a pretty good golf swing with the cornbroom too! It's not been easy. So, I have a question Alexa....
Rodger never, ever bothers my hubby. Is it (here comes the dumb question) a female thing?? I've yet to hear of a cockeral attacking a male.
I know horses, dogs, cats etc can and do have a preference.... But roosters?
Maybe it's because Fiona used to run to me to be picked up and snuggled during the the first couple of weeks and he saw me as a threat? But he snuggled too! He used to be right at the bottom of the pecking order (literally) and totally changed when he got his own digs.... And ladies!!

Thanks for the add!
I'm new to the chicken scene having got my first rooster (Sir Rodger) quickly followed by Princess Fiona both cream legbars and both were born May 22nd 2018.
Rodger was a little too amorous with Fiona and so I went on to search for more ladies. I quickly added as my divas! Goldie Hawn (Golden Laced Wyandotte. Born May)
Josie Moran (Blue Moran aged 18 months) and Sophia Loren (Silver Laced Wyandotte aged 5 years: rescued)
Sir Rodger has turned out to be VERY protective of his girls and I never go into the run without being armed with my little old cornbroom. Lol. He's had one or two attitude adjustments and for the most part is pretty well behaved!!
We live in the Grande Ronde valley on our farm (outside of La Grande, OR) in the middle of the wheatfields.
I found BYC after reading a forum on worming chickens in Oregon Chicken Lovers!
Yes, I'm hooked!!
I'm sure I'll be using the resources and picking brains a LOT as chickens were the furthest from my mind... I'm sure learning a lot!!
We're predominantly a grain farm but also have 5 horses, 5 beagles and a basset.... And now 5 chickens. I'm noticing a theme here!! My hubby and I also have my oldest daughter and two teen granddaughters living with us.View attachment 1625929View attachment 1625930 View attachment 1625931View attachment 1625933
