Hello,
My name is Katelyn and my husband is Erik. We are semi new to raising backyard chickens. He was worked on a veggie farm from the age of 9 till 18, I grew up in the city and know close to nothing about raising chickens. I've read a lot of posts on here and decided it was time to join.
We have 4 hens and 1 rooster, we used to have a second rooster, but we had him for dinner one night. After he got too aggressive with one of our hens and almost killed her, we decided then that he was dinner. That was another first experience for me. We have 2 Star hens, 1 Brahma hen, 1 Barred Rock hen, and one Barred Rock rooster. They live in a 10x10 dog kennel with 2 smaller coops inside. We used to have them separated, each rooster with 2 hens but when the second rooster was removed we just left both coops in there. We've had them for about 3 years and are looking into expanding their area with another 10x10 dog kennel.
I'm looking forward to having a community with fellow back yard chicken people.
