The only thing I know about ducks is they have a "preening" gland and preening their feathers properly front to back waterproofs them. I wonder if something is amiss with Jack's gland and rather than helping him - may be causing him pain. Please do post on the Duck Forum where folks with actual duck experience can give you the best answers.
