(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first had chickens 45+ years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 5 very spoiled and loved ladies. Helga, Ida, Henrietta, Pearl and Gladys.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Welsummers
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The company they keep. My girls follow me everywhere outside, chatting non-stop and so curious about everything I do.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I dabble in textile arts in my backyard studio. Otherwise, I'm outside whitewater kayaking and rafting/river camping, restoring vintage camp trailers/glamping, hiking, fly fishing and equestrian trail riding...
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have a combined 5 adult children and one grandchild. We like to travel on a whim and have two small dogs. Koopah is the keeper of the coop. He sits on top of the coop when the ladies go to bed and makes sure they're all tucked in. Tink thinks she's one of the ladies....she's less than half their size. It's hilarious.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I read a lot about chickens and have come across this site several times while researching different subjects. I enjoy reading what others have to say and the vast amount of collective knowledge that's offered.
