I am in North Carolina and totally new to chicken raising/keeping. I have 5 chicks that we adopted from a friend who hatched some of her eggs in an incubator. They are going on 5 weeks this weekend. I am working to get my girls more used to being touched and held...slow and steady wins the race:thumbsup

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Congrats on your new chicks! Definitely handle them a lot as babies so they aren't as flighty as adults. I like to lay down an old sheet on the living room floor, (lock away all danger first) and I get the babies out of the brooder and sit with them for about 10 mins a day . They are nervous at first and will gravitate to your lap. But this teaches them the lap is a safe friendly place to be. Turns them into lap hounds later as they grow. :D

If you have any questions about anything along the way, be sure to ask. Welcome to our community!

Thanks! We got them out a lot when they were in the brooder and played with them on the floor. Now they are in the coop/run (it's so warm here that we put them out early - North Carolina). They are still a bit flighty but are getting better. I spend time with them each day when I take them treats.
