Welcome. Your broody hen with her chicks picture is really good.Hi all! Computer scientist turned farmer here! (Still work as a CS though)
Growing up I always had chickens that my 2 siblings and I learned to take care of from our mother and grandmother. We moved to the big city life at some point and didn't have chickens, until my fiancee (now wife) and I moved to our land in North Germany in early 2022, to work our way towards self-sufficiency.
We have 2+40 chickens, with 18 fertile eggs being incubated by one of our big broodies right now (she's an Orpington x Brahma mix).
Our flock has a colorful mix of breeds including Araucana, Easter Egger, Marans, Vorwerk, Silver-blue Königsberger, Brahma, Sussex, Lohmann Brown, Leghorn, Barred Rock, Bovan Black, Orpington.
I've always loved the quirkiness and unique characters of chickens and love it when they're friendly and take treats right out of my hands and allow themselves to be picked up and/or petted or jump up and sit on my shoulder while I walk around.
My hobbies: DIY everything (woodwork, metalwork, building etc.), computer games, electronics, programming, guitars, tinkering with cars, motorbikes, chainsaws (anything with a motorized engine), cooking, collecting vinyl records, volunteer firefighting... To name a few.
We have a dog named Leila. She is a great Pyrenees x Briard girl who is 5 years old now.
I always came across the BYC forums while looking for information on chickens. Finally decided to join to socialize and share.![]()
