Hi from a newbie!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You'll pick them up at night after they go to roost to examine them.
Give them some time to calm down. I have two WLHs and they are sweet but cautious birds. They are much calmer than they were when I first brought them home.
Moving slowly around the birds is always a good idea.
These three girls are now forming a new flock from where they came from. Pecking is a normal part of establishing and keeping the order. Attitude determines ranking, not comb size.
How much space have you given them in the coop and in the run?

Thanks so much for these insights! The girls have the Vancouver, BC bylaw requirements for 3 laying hens (12 square feet of coop space and ~32 in the pen) - which seems to fit what I have seen advised elsewhere. The coop sits atop a 4-foot by 8-foot pen. Here's the website of the awesome Duncan who builds the coops: https://www.dailyeggs.com/coops.html/. I'm about to expand the run and make the coop walk-in size, which should make life easier in terms of cleaning etc! Here's a pic from yesterday.
