Hi from a total newbie

A couple of years ago I decided to make a life change - to move to the country and raise all my own food. So far I've only done preliminary planning and research work, and BackYard Chickens has been a GREAT source of information. I decided to become a member to be able to be more involved in this community as I prepare to take my first "action" step - finding a little piece of land where I can let my future chickens free range (and help me in the garden when the time is right). I'm very excited about this new phase in my life and can hardly wait to get a few chickens. I've decided on Orpingtons.

I am a HUGE fan of Orpingtons. They are great layers, very docile, affectionate and very hardy over all. My Black Australorps follow me around like drooling puppies, stalking me for goodies or a warm lap. They are big lap babies and beg for me to sit down and snuggle with mommy. LOL
