Hello and welcome to BYC from Ohio. You have lots to consider! What breed would you like? Do you want eggs? Brown, white or even tinted eggs? Are you going to raise your chickens for meat?

Now, a great tool I started with was catalogs. Just look up chicken hatcheries on the web, and lots of hatcheries will send you very nice catalogs with great pics and descriptions like size of the males and females, heat and cold tolerance, egg size and color and how often they lay, temperament, if the hens are very broody, and also if the breed tolerates being confined. Those things will really help you decide which breed is right for you.

Good luck and make a plan and you'll do just fine!
