Hi everyone just wanted to introduce myself I'm a mama from Canberra, Australia and just starting out in the garden for first time looking to meet others who keep a garden/chickens etc, we just got our 4 new chicks yesterday and are extremely excited!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

first had chickens when I was little girl living rural country, but My first chickens since I been grown were first a rooster someone didn't want, then 5 x battery/rescue hens that were no longer wanted by the people who rescued them (kinda just happened one day, I had chickens lol) I'm prob 95% new to this.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

4 baby chicks :-D

(3) What breeds do you have?

2 wynedotte bantams, 1 jungle fowl and 1 lucky dip chick.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

same way I find out about everything... google :->

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

local aquarium society, I breed fishies, general mum stuff, like rockabilly princess style, ink, being artistic, now I am super keen on learning a better lifestyle and getting out in the yard seems a good place to start?

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have 6 aquariums, mostly full of catfish. one beautiful 7 year old daughter, just trying to learn as much as I can about keeping my bokboks in a happy, healthy, but most cost effective way possible.

love to get in touch with others owning chickens/growing fruit/veg gardens, southern region Aussies especially, to find how to help chickens cope with the freezing winters and scorching summer days, make general chit chat etc, I have lots that I want to learn!

G'day to you. The Aussie thread you were given should be great for you. Probably some chicken folk live near you and can share their experiences. Generally chickens can tolerate cold much better than heat. The Black Australorp breed is Australian, and bred to handle the climate. They are also great layers. Very, very popular in US as well.

It sounds like you have plenty to keep busy with, lol. You might find other members that are interested in aquariums if you post about them on the hobby forum:
