Hi, I new here and new to Alabama. I moved down from Joplin Missouri. I came from living at my small farm there south of town to here in the city between Clay and Trussville. The good thing is my backyard is privacy fenced, backs up to the backside of the golf course and so I get the feel of country while in the city.. Found out I could have chickens so went to a "chicken auction" out in the country ( Another first for me ) and came home with 5 baby silkies and two laying hens of undeterminded breed. The red one I named Miss Red and the silver one I call Miss Lilly. They both lay almost every day and Red has become very friendly and Miss Lilly "talks" to me alot but is still stand-off-ish. The babys are very skittish but I am trying really hard to get them used to me. I have made them a "make-shift"coop out of my side shed but am researching buying a real coop or trying to build them one and could really use some suggestions. I am a single not handy gal so need it to be cheap and easy.
Plus I am researching into what breeds would be a good addition to my flock. My lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback has taken it into her head its her job to "chick-sit" and guard my new babies and its so fun to watch her with them.
Thanks guys.
Pam
