Hi!

I'm new to this chicken thing and am so excited after reading all the posts! Question:

I live in an apartment and have a courtyard that's quite large. However.....it is all concrete, no dirt. Has anyone ever kept chickens on concrete?

Welcome to BYC. All concrete - I would make sure to provide shade in the summer, sandbox like areas for dusting, and flats of grass for foraging. Chickens are adaptable and can do well under many differing conditions. Good luck.

! Pleased you joined our community! I agree with sourland - chickens can handle about anything - plus concrete is easier to clean, won't get muddy, etc. Good luck and enjoy your flock!

Hello and welcome to BYC

Chickens have a deep desire to scratch in something and to take dust baths, so if you can meet these needs they'll be O.K. Also agreeing with Sourland on the shade. Concrete can get uncomfortable when it's hot!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. Concrete does has it's pros and cons. Constructing a dusting box will help and maybe some of that green outdoor carpet will be easy on their feet and it it easily washed off. Good luck. :thumbsup
