Hi,
I'm Erik. I am new to chickenry. We got three Barred Rocks and three Buff Orpingtons about 2 weeks ago, partly because our area is overrun with ticks, and we thought maybe the chickens would eat enough ticks for us to go into the yard. We also thought having chickens would be fun, and my son (4) gets excited whenever we see chickens in person, so this seemed fun for him too. The eggs will be a nice perk. I'm having a lot of fun so far, but haven't built the coop yet. I see this as a speedbump. As my name indicates, I also would like to do this on the cheap. I have a bunch of pallets to recycle and will see what I can do. I got plans from The Garden Coop and am taking it from there. I'm also blogging about my experiences on my Tumblr, where I pretend what I do is "farming." I've gotten a lot of good ideas from here so far, and I have a feeling that will continue.
