Just a quick hello.... been lurking here for quite a while, but thought I'd finally register so I can post. Chose the user name because my 14 year old kid LOVES anything green (except for salad), especially green-shelled eggs.
We have 2 acres out in the country, with 3 miniature goats, 1 nubian goat, and 14 chickens. We have 1 easter egger rooster, 6 easter egger girls (1 hen, 5 9-mo-old pullets), 2 white plymouth rock hens, 1 black australorp cockerel, and 4 black australorp 9-mo-old pullets. We get enough eggs to eat, give to mom-in-law, and sometimes sell. Of course, it IS winter so by Springtime, we'll get enough to sell lots. Here's hoping!
My son is autistic and can't handle loud sounds (especially our roosters) crow so loudly that he feels the need to bang his head. Not good. So I've ordered 10 bantam blue silkies and 15 bantam easter egger day-olds from cackle hatchery, to be delivered in Feb. Hoping to cross them to get some very small broody hens who lay green eggs, and a couple of very small roosters who's crow won't be loud enough to set off my kid.
I'm a fanatic about my chickens, and could spend hours looking at people's peeps (!) and coops and runs. Looking forward to posting messages and reading on here in the coming weeks/months/years.
Guess that's it for now.
