I am a chicken newbie myself, but have done a bit of research. I'm just outside the Colorado Springs city limits and I'm a native of the city. Check with your city administrators on how many chickens you may keep, but I can tell you they will say NO to roosters.
In the Springs you can have up to 10 chickens, no roosters. Coops are all sizes, varieties and prices as well. I lucked out with my neighbor that lives down the street, he's gonna build a coop for me, on wheels too so I can move it around if I need to
Anyway, welcome and drop me a line whenever...I'm sure I'll be checking in here often!
Thank you everybody who have made me feel so welcome at BYC!! I've been off line for a while during my quasi/semi-move from CO to HI! I'm living with a friend to out the area for permanent home in the future. We are near Hilo. It rains A LOT and sometimes for a long stretch of time since I got here, but people said it'll dry up soon. As far as chickens, I heard some outside church on Sunday--roosters crowing while the service was going on. Kind of neat and harmoniously natural. I have talked to a local that has quails and love birds--but no chickens. She said if I'd keep chickens, I'll need to provide shelter like a covered chicken run or more covered area so the chickens would not get wet. I think I get it since the rain here seems to come from all directions sometimes. If I were a chicken, I would not want to be wet most of the time, or even at all. So, there is a lot for me to find out and figure out before I get anything. Will let you know how my adventure and education pan out.
