My daughter (11) has been asking for Chickens for over a year now and I found this site while doing my homework. I am so glad to find such wonderful information. We are looking to get our 1st chicks next week and I could not find a brooder that I liked. Thanks to Miss Jenny's Incredible Chick-Quarium we are in business. It is under construction as I type (notice I am typing and not building)
We want it to last

I did have 1 question. Do I need to put a "roof" on it as the chicks get older? I noticed in some of the pics people framed out a wooden frame with chicken wire. The brooder is 4' high. Will that be high enough without a roof?
