New here, new back yard farmers. Recently convinced husband and we built a coop. Then we went from 0 to 14 in about 2 months. We started with 6 Cornish Rocks chicks (meat, at 9 wks now!), 1 Wyandotte laying daily, 2 comets that were laying when we first got them, and a silkie rooster, some newly added pullets: an australorpe, a well-summer, & 2 emerald sex-links.
Today my husband and I are about to try to process the 6 meat birds. Of course there were a few people that had promised to help, but are no where to be found this week..
We eat organic & non GMO & humane as much as possible, we try to support local farmers, and having the chickens has been so therapeutic. We want our children to know where their food comes from and they really are enjoying our little farm. We plan to expand as we can afford, maybe nubian goats next, turkey, pigs, eventually some highland cows.

and Welcome To BYC! Ya, help does seem to have a way of disappearing don't they. Good luck with the processing, if you haven't seen it be sure to check out the Meat Brids section, there are some really good threads in the Archives with pictures etc
