Hi guys,

So glad i found this site. I am a stay at home mum who enjoys gardening and looking after my kids and various animal friends. We purchased 3 beautiful hens off a lady here in Christchurch, NZ. The place was pretty overrun with chickens and the areas were pretty unsightly. Our girls came home ridden with worms. One by one they have had to be put down over the last year. The first was suspected gapeworm or it may have swallowed some stringy plastic off some buried weedmat, that we didnt realise was in their enclosure. Second one got a very bad respiratory sickness and today we had to put our beloved remaining girl down as she presented with crop impaction and may have been eggbound. I am devastated. Luckily we let her sit on some fertile eggs when she was last broody and we now are left with her two adopted Orpington chicks. She looked so hilarious as she was a tiny we ginger coloured girl with these huge fluffy babies sitting all over her! Hoping for better luck with our remaining two. Looking forward to having people to talk to about the in;s and out's owning chickens X

Hi and

- great to have you onboard with us. Sounds like a bit of a rocky road you have had so far, but i hope that things improve!

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre (even if you have lots of experience)

All the best

Auckland member here. Sounds like tough introduction to chickens! Good luck with your Orps.I have 3.Had them as pets as a child so they were the first breed I wanted when I got chickens 16mths ago. Such gentle fluffy chickens. Regards Penny.
