Harmoni
Songster
Hi! My name is Harmoni. I am a mom of 6 and new to chickens. We recently got 2 Rhode Island Red hens who I am assuming are about 6 months? One is laying and one is not. Not sure if she is a late bloomer or there is something wrong. We have had them for just under a week. We plan on getting more after we get the hand of it.
Right now we are working with a temporary coop and run until this weekend when my husband builds the permanent ones.
I just ordered some coccodiosis treatment as a precautionary since one of the hens is having occasional bloody diarrhea.
We decided to get chickens so we could become more self sufficient, plus we love eggs.
Any advice on how to get them more comfortable with us handling them? Both girls shy away from hands unless we are feeding them. I would really like to mark one of them so we can tell the difference between them because they are almost identical. I've read about zip ties, but since they don't take kindly to us handling them, not sure how well that would work.
Any advice or insight into chicken raising in Florida would be awesome!
I look forward to getting to know you all.
