We are so excited to be part of the backyard chicken (and duck) family. We absolutely adore our birds and they seem to enjoy us as well. The are allowed to free-range/roam on our 1 acre lot which is located in a woody neighborhood in the middle of town. We have not completed their coop yet but yet they know it is the place to get their food. We originally started with 4 baby chicks and two ducks. Unfortunately while out of town we lost one. However the others are doing quite well and the 5 of them travel in a pack and cuddle together in the evening. We could not be more happier with our decision to take on this adventure. They seem quite settled however they always trying to get into the house or the garage :)

! Pleased you joined our flock! Happy you are enjoying your flock!

Welcome to BYC from California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills!

If I let them, most of my flock would move into the Human Coop. ;). As it is, I do have a couple of house chickens.

Be that as it may, chickens are amazing critters. I have about seventy of 'em. So are ducks (I have 27 Cayugas and one call duck), turkeys (I have four) and geese (got five Toulouse).

Enjoy your flock and don't be surprised how much time you spend on BYC.... Maybe half as much as you already spend just watching your flock. :p

It is the Community of BYC members that makes BYC so wonderful, although the information and assistance available through it is amazing. I shudder to think what my flock might have had to experience had I not discovered BYC.
