Hi all. I've been lurking and decided to finally join up. Lots of good info here and I'm glad to find some local folks in Upstate South Carolina from whom I can buy chicks and hopefully learn. I'd like to raise them for the eggs, entertainment, fertilizer and child educational value.
Don't have chickens or housing yet, but I'm considering around 4 to 7 for a large chicken tractor and possibly portable fence for our 3 acres. We live in a subdivision of 3+ acre lots but chickens are allowed and neighbors are supportive (at least in theory). I look forward to reading more about how to build/buy a coop to deal with the oppressive southern heat and windy conditions on our lot (and known predators of coyotes, possums, hawks, dogs and feral cats).
Thanks!
