We started raising chickens a few years ago. Our flock is currently about 70, mostly Red Sex-links plus 3 Lavender Orpingtons and 3 Azure Blues.

We provide eggs for our neighbors in the community. I joined this forum to learn some advanced homesteading skills, like growing cover crops for foraging.

We began with some Partridge Chanteclers we hatched in an incubator. That was a train-wreck. They must have been from a bad gene pool, because they mostly got sick and were not very hardy. They were gorgeous chickens though, I miss them.

Then we moved on to Sex-links, Orpingtons and Azure Blues from Frey's nursery and have had great results. They've all been extremely healthy with no issues. Except for some bumblefoot in the Orpingtons which we were able to take care of ourselves.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

We have a sister site, https://www.sufficientself.com/ that will have some information about homesteading.

I see you already found the Feeding and Watering your flock forum and asked your foraging question. :)

We're glad you're here!
