I'm so sorry for your losses this year. It is heartbreaking to lose our chickens, beloved pets really, to predators.
I am partial to orpingtons, so I have 4 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Australorps and 3 Lavender Orpingtons. I also have 2 Rhode Island Reds.
We also lost 3 hens to a predator this year and we are also building a new completely secure coop and run. In the meantime, we have put bird netting over the top of as much of the run as we can. They live in our small orchard, so we have trees to work around. Even after building the secure place for them, they will be able to free range in the orchard during the day. It is a constant work in progress around here.

I finally gave up and let them have run of the gardens, I think they love the fauna more than I need it.

Nice to have you here! Sorry about your losses! I am only growing veggies in the front yard anymore.... the wild rabbits and occasional deer do less damage than the chooks 
! The gooseberry bush, blueberry bushes in the backyard are history 
The chickens eat the blackberries and berries from native bushes they can reach, the wild birds and squirrels eat the rest.... I’m fine with the ‘compromise’
