I'm so sorry for your losses this year. It is heartbreaking to lose our chickens, beloved pets really, to predators.Hi Valerie, thanks for your kind reply! My flock has had a rough year, with predators taken 3 of my girls. Now I've only got two hens (new hamsphire and rhode island red) and a tiny sebright rooster left. When spring comes i will have a new save henhouse and coop! Right now i'm doing preparations: I've demolished a small leaky shed, and am now clearing the ground space so I can lay a foundation. When there is something above i ground i'm happy to share pictures! What kind of chickens do you keep?

I am partial to orpingtons, so I have 4 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Australorps and 3 Lavender Orpingtons. I also have 2 Rhode Island Reds.
We also lost 3 hens to a predator this year and we are also building a new completely secure coop and run. In the meantime, we have put bird netting over the top of as much of the run as we can. They live in our small orchard, so we have trees to work around. Even after building the secure place for them, they will be able to free range in the orchard during the day. It is a constant work in progress around here.
