Hi all. I just joined the group after being invited by a friend. I am new to the chicken world, but have wanted to have chickens most of my adult life. I am 42 and until now there was always a reason I couldn't, mostly space and legalities. I am hoping to start my flock this spring. I have been doing a lot of research and am very glad to have people who know what they are doing to guide me when I have a question. Thank you for helping a newbie out.

Welcome!

As part of your research, I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre if you have not already checked it out; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

And, some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

That's great you're finally able to get chickens! Do you know what breed (or breeds) you want?
