I need some advice - I'm new to this whole chicken thing, this year. I hand raised 6 hens from day old chicks with my kids. And last week two of my girls were eaten! One friend said it had to be a weasel, another said opossums. We trapped a neighborhood opposum last night - do i kill it?! There are more where that one came from...

Also, I got 3 pullets from a nearby farm on Sat, but my hens won't leave the new birds alone! And the new girls were NOT hand raised, so when my daughter opened the nest box to check for eggs this morning 2 of them flew the coop, and we can't catch them. Help! I'm in the city limits, in a neighborhood, not out in the country. My neighbors don't want my chickens in their yards. Any suggestions??

Thanks:/

The best time to try to catch chickens is at night, they don't see very well.

. On the runaway hens I agree with kidcody - wait for dark. On the opossum problem you will get a variety of answers on this site. Some will say relocate it a good distance away - others will say to shoot it and be done with it. Whatever you are comfortable with and is allowed is what I would go with. Here in the country the answer is pretty simple. Not sure of your rules where you live. Keep the traps out and best of luck to you!
