Hi from Kentucky, I'm a newbie

from the Finger Lakes of New York! As for the opossum, I would say dispatch it. If you release, it will come back (no doubt!). If you relocate, you are only giving someone else your problem. Just my thoughts. Glad to have you here!

THANKS everyone for the warm welcome! Caught one pullet, but couldn't catch the second, and after dark she roosted high above the coop in a tree. Now she's in the neighbors yard again today, making a lot of noise, and the neighborhood cats are curiously watching her. Hope she makes it!

So, I guess there is a difference in how weasels and opossums kill chickens? Anyone know what it is? I need to know how to catch the thing... There are a LOT of opossums in the neighborhood - but i have never SEEN a weasel... But I guess that doesn't mean anything. Tips??

Hello and welcome! I'm in Kentucky, too, but still new enough to chickens that I can't answer your question definitively. You will have MUCH better luck with the knowledgeable folks over in the "Predators and Pests" forum (click on INDEX and scroll down the list of forums to get there). I've heard that the weasels are pretty bad this year, though, especially with fall coming up.
