I am fairly new to the chicken world but am enjoying it. I was looking out my bedroom window one morning and saw a chicken in the backyard. My husband had been kidding about getting a hen so I yelled at him that he had a rooster in the yard. He came running and said you nut that's hen not a rooster!
Well the chicken stayed and no mater how hard I tried to run her off she would not leave. Finally I gave in and let her stay.
I named her Ethel. One day I was on the carport looking for something and brnt over to find it. When I raised up I came eye to eye to 10 eggs! Boy was I surprised. She had made herself a nest on a bale of straw. That was the beginning and we are both hooked on our flock.
We have Japanese Bantams, Reds,Buff Orpingtons,Barred Rocks Ameraucansa and Speckled Sussex. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
