Hi There,
New to BYC & loving this site so helpful! but for anyone in cold weather states wondering what is best to insulate coop with & what's the best bedding to use in summer vs winter months? maybe it's the same yr. round? Thanks so much for any advice and/or tips

I insulated mine with insulation. but others say Styrofoam is good. either one is fine. but be sure you cover it up so chickens won't peck at it. I live in Michigan so in the winter I leave my vent open about an inch. it's a 6"x3' window that is hinged to open from the top. I have a window and storm door on the south side for more ventilation. I have no odor and the chickens are out of the draft. I even insulated the roof( with metal sheets on top). If it gets too cold, I leave the vent open and use a heat lamp facing the hens but not close enough to burn them. it helps heat up the coop. Hens are like birds. they fluff up their feathers to keep warm. when it get's around 20 or lower, then I use the heat lamp. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the welcomes, MA thread info. & advice from Michigan!
