I know this is an older post and my question is somewhat off-topic to this thread... But I am in the process of moving to Meriden and I am wondering if you know about the ordinances in the town. I am interested in starting my own little flock once I get settled in. I will be living on a plot near a tree farm with about an acre of land.
To be on topic; from everything I have read, you do not need electricity for chickens in this climate. All of the chickens I cared for at a nature center did just fine in a shed-turned-coop in the middle of the animal area. As long as their water is kept from freezing and they're safely kept from drafts, they'll be fine.
