(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens (and pheasants) off and on for 20+ years

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently have 6

(3) What breeds do you have?
3 Isa Brown hens, 1 Belgian Bearded Bantam hen and 2 Golden Sebright Bantams (hen & rooster) - who wants free Sebrights?

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Not sure where I first saw something, have known about the sight for sometime

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Sewing, gardening, jewelery making

I have been thinking about joining BYC for a while now that I have chickens again and would like to raise some for meat, not just pets/eggs. Finally decided to join to find a home for 2 chickens that I have ended up with. My husband gave me 3 Isa Brown pullets from the farm store - he went in for mower parts. About a week later a friend brought over 3 failed Easter presents, "since you have chickens now whats 3 more".

We seem to operate under a Russian 5 year plan here ... thus I have no real outdoor chicken accommodations. The "plan" was to build a pen & house by the time my chicks were mature enough to go out side. At night and when the weather is crappy all the chickens are inside; in the living room, in big wire dog kennels. The Isa Browns think the vacuum and the dogs are their friends. They have been stared at and vacuumed around since they were 2 days old. The Belgian Bearded hen has tamed down nicely and is a cuddly little fluffy thing. The Sebrights on the other hand are not coping well with being house chickens and are if anything becoming more reactive and less tolerant of handling.

So; I would like to re-home the Sebrights. They are not doing well here. And then there is the crowing ... first thing in the morning, in the living room ...

I am in the Flint area if anyone wants free chickens!

Thanks for the welcome!

Here are some pictures of my current chickens. The 3 little chickens are in a dog cage as they can pop right through the chain link on the big kennel. The 3 ISA Browns have learned what a gate is. They run to meet me look for treats and a pat, then want out to see their "friend" the slavering predatory dog, Rose. The silly birds will try to dash out the gate when the dogs are around. The smaller dog Sophie will run from the chickens who then obligingly chase her across the yard. Rose is an accomplished and proficient predator of small vermin. (groundhogs, moles, voles, rabbits ...) I need to get a dog entry proof and chicken escape proof pen/house built. If I am moving birds or going in and out of the kennel I leave Rose in the house.
