I have wanted to have chickens for quite a wile and by luck I have been given a flock of hens from friends who have to move. I have been lurking on here reading as much as I can and have built a coop. I have to build a run this weekend. I will go get the girls next week. How can I be sure to make the trip as less stressful for them it will be a 3 hour trip? I tried to post photos but can't from a I pad

Thanks for your help

Hi, welcome to BYC! I hope you can find everything you need on here. If you don't, just ask!

They may be stressed on the trip, which might cause them to stop laying for a spell. When you get them settled in, make sure they know where the food and water is.

Good luck and congrats on your flock!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Good luck with your future flock. The best way to keep them calm is make sure they are secure and comfortable. Put a towel or blanket in the crate with them if they don't have bedding. Also placing another towel or blanket over the crate or box will keep them quiet and probably calmer.

And like silkiecuddles ^ said, they probably won't lay eggs until they get settled and used to their new home. Make sure everything is ready for them BEFORE they arrive so that there isn't really anything to do but place them in the coop once the arrive home.

Good luck!

Good luck with your new flock, what kind of birds are they?

Have a good time getting to know your chickens and if you have questions, feel free to ask!

Glad you have joined us.

Congrats on getting your own flock.

Mountain Peeps had given you the info you need.

IMO if you could move them at night it may be less stressful on them and you?
