Husband and I got baby chicks in March from a local feed store-8 production Rhode Island Reds. A few weeks later, we bought one Lemon Cuckoo Buff Orpington and 3 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from my neighbor who raises all kinds of poultry, among many other animals.
Husband worked for weeks on the coop and set it in place on Mother's Day. We finished the run a couple of weeks later and everything looks great. The chickens are growing and all are free ranging. (Although we spotted a fox last night sitting patiently waiting for us to go inside so he could get a quick snack right before sunset.)
I have been stalking the Backyard Chicken boards for the past few months and felt it was time to join. Everyone on here is so knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you all! We are loving our chickens and who knew they were so entertaining!

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

Good luck with your flock and be extra careful of the sly little fox. One of my silkie pullets was snatched about a week ago right out of my backyard. No more free ranging unless I stay right there with them

beware of foxes, they aren't very big but they are sneaky and very determined. They can climb, jump high and run like the devil even with their lunch in their mouth. They are also good diggers. If they get an easy meal they will come back again and again .
