I am new here and new to raising chickens. I just picked up my chicks on Monday. Six of them. 1 Barred Rock, 1 Speckled Sussex, 1 Easter Egger, 1 Delaware and 2 Delacuana's. They were 1 week old as of Tuesday. Supposedly they are all hens, but we will see. I have been a nervous mama since picking them up and have been checking them and the temp in the coop constantly. I thought raising chicks would be a piece of cake, but I am realizing just how much I don't know. Which is why I have joined this community. Hopefully I will gain a lot of information from reading about all of your chickens.
So far all of my babies are doing well. I have one that we nicked her little leg when we cut off the band and it bled a little so we cleaned it and sprayed some antibacterial/germicide stuff on it and have her isolated for a few days to keep the others from pecking at it and we have another that looked like she was having problems pooping yesterday and her vent (is that what it is called) looked swollen but not bloody. The other chicks aren't bothering her by pecking at it and she was eating and drinking so I cleaned her up as best I could and this morning when I looked at her it looked a lot better (almost back to normal).
That's it about me and mine for now. I will try to post some pictures at some point.
