Hi from New Hampshire!

Anything to peak their interest. Find a favorite food, mine love ALL foods: spaghetti noodles, Mac n cheese, pizza. Anything to get them to follow you. They are pray so chasing them only gets them defensive.
I did one day see a woman tempting her free rangers back from a neighborhood kids' park with bits of american cheese! They do love their treats!

There you go. My silkies don't particularly care for meal worms, so I am still trying to find a go to treat with them.

Mine seem to like them, although the first time my 4 year old wanted to keep doling them out, so they did seem to get a bit tired of them in the moment. I put them in my portable tent/run thing later to reconfigure their more permanent run, and when they got back in they did clean up the uneaten ones. I've put a small scooper in with the chicken supplies and the kids know that one scoop per child on the days they can give that treat is all that is allowed so we don't have that situation again!

Do your silkies like the dried flies? Mine looooovvvveee their scratch? (I do know excess is bad for them). Maybe I'll get a small plastic container of it to just shake when I do give it to them to let them know the good stuff is on the way!

At this stage we're giving them small quantities of scraps as we come by them (the refridgerated remnants of scrambled eggs from the other day, bits of spinach from salad cuttings, tomatoes, a cucumber that had gone a bit soft in spots but wasn't actually bad, some leftover cooked plain oatmeal from breakfast, softer grapes from the bunch as I make the kids snacks, apples that just didn't make it in to the crockpot for applesauce... banana bits from making strawberry-banana oatmeal, strawberry tops. They seem to be quite good at just eating what they need and moving on after they have eaten what they want!) Which is awesome because my compost bin is only so big, so letting them process what they want, and then throwing their condensed poo in will definitely conserve my available bin space!

I guess we'll be doing a lot of clicking our tongues, we are a horse-loving family so we all know how to do that! (Also in our future barnyard plans ha!)

My daughter said that today they seem to be less scared of us, so I think spoiling the crap out of them is working well . And yesterday's transfer from the mobile run to the permanent run was without escaping incident.

Progress?

You can actually clicker train them. I have horses too!!! Yes make sure they don't get spoiled and loose interest in what your trying to use. My silkies are starting to like the scratch, but still don't go "crazy" for anything in particular. Except Beaker my cross beak one she loves her mush and even paces the fence if she is wanting it.
