I'm a backyard chicken enthusiast and I live in Auckland New Zealand. My Dad introduced me to chicken keeping when we shifted to another city at the start of the long holidays when I was 8 years old. My brother and I were lonely, knowing nobody locally, and Dad hit upon the idea of a chicken coop building project and some bantams to occupy it. I've been hooked ever since! (I'm now 59 and have kept and bred chickens for much of my adult life). My local council has very strict bylaws about chickens, so I'm limited to a small number and no roosters.
I've come across this forum and look forward to being a member at a distance!

Recently, I've hatched some eggs from a breeder under a broody hen and have 8 week old chicks. Here is one of the blue australorps - a breed I have never had before . Can anyone help me with sexing this chick please??? (S/he is 8 weeks) Thanks very much!

We've got a few members from your part of the world, so don't feel too distant!
Your chicken looks like a hen to me, but I may be wrong...
Anyone else?

Hello and :welcome

Hi, I'm in Australia. You can find the NZ thread in Where am I, where are you... I know there is one, hiding somewhere.
Your chicken seems like a hen to me too. My hens looked similar at that age. And it is a very beautiful bird, great picture too! I love taking pics of the chooks, they're a total hoot.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D
