Hi,
I live on 2 acres in NC and though my grandmother always had chickens I had been away from them for many years. That is until I decided I wanted chickens and ordered 8 from My Pet Chicken last April. I have 2 RIRs, 2 Black Stars, 2 Australorps & 2 EEs - all girls. And the chicken bug bit hard so I already have an order in for 6 more, due this April.
Originally, my husband went along with the chicken thing with amused, but somewhat detached interest. But once that box of little chicks was opened and he held one of those little fuzzy, peeping balls of fluff - he was smitten. So last Summer when I suggested the "girls" would be more comfortable in a larger coop, he just grinned and said, "yeah, and we can get some more chickens". And I thought I would have to convince him.
I happened upon this site back when I was doing lots of google searches and trying to learn as much about raising and caring for chickens and I am amazed at all the really good info, ideas and fun stories.
My husband and I are retired and in addition to spoiling our chickens, we love gardening, hiking, and music.
