Be sure to make the coop larger than you think you will need. Chicken addiction hits hard and fast, you will want to buy every new breed/color/variety that comes along.

Chickens need 4 sg.feet per bird in the coop and 10 sg.feet per bird in the outdoor run. If they are too crowded they start fighting, feather picking and can progress to cannibalism . If you hang nest boxes on the outside the coop it will leave more room for the birds inside, and make it easier to retrieve eggs.

My coop will be 64 square feet The run in planning will be 150 square feet. I'm good for up to 15 girls. I think that chicken math has hit home because I started out thinking I'd get ten and in up to 14 already. Astraloprs, Easter eggers, jersey giant, RIRs and barred Plymouth
