We had a flock of 25 Buff Orpingtons about 10 years ago and loved them, though had a time of it dealing with their tendency to want to set.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
7 Black Astrolopes and 7 Dominiques, I've read that these have less of a tendency to set, but are still friendly
(3) What breeds do you have?
They are 2 weeks old and doing well until I found a swollen red vent this evening, which is how I found this web site. So I've started the coconut oil and the cortisone cream.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are friendly and fun and good for teaching children how to care for animals.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, I have 6 kids and older parents and not a lot of extra time
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
A dog and two cats, which is on the low side for us when it comes to pets and backyard animals. I'm a retired RN.
