I just got the chicken fever, picked up 13 pullets and 1 roo last week all about 4 months old. They seem to have no to little interest in going outside of there coop. Is this normal?

Congratulations on your new chickens. How old are they?
Chickens seem to come/go as they please.
They will eventually wander outside to check it out.
They will stay close to the coop at first and over time will wander a little bit more.

Greetings! I just joined a few minutes ago.... We just got 5 "rescue" chickens. They came from an "egg farm" with not-so-great conditions, I'm guessing.

We had a coop on the property, and I have hay inside the lay boxes; the feeder is inside the coop, and have been feeding them at sundown to herd them into the coop for the night.

The pen itself is quite large, but the english ivy covered the ground, and I spread hay around to cover it up. My neighbor says I need to cut back all the ivy, because the chickens need to dig in the dirt.

We feed them Layena; but they haven't produced a single egg yet.

We've had them about two weeks now.

Any advice? And many thanks!
