Hello everyone. I just registered with BYC and already love this site. I am from Pelham, NC. I grew up on a farm, and still live on the same farm, although it is not "operational" any longer. I had chickens as a child growing up...but my husband, 5 year old son and I recently acquired 12 chickens (2 roosters, 10 hens). They are mixed breeds, but they are all beautiful, and we have them spoiled rotten. We also have a Black Lab that is learning to accept and even guard our new family members (best dog EVER). I am so excited to be a chicken mom and to be a member of this site.

Glad you could join the amazing site. You can find almost anything here on threads filled with expertise information by the "pros". I love love

black labs as they are so animated and full of life. I myself have a Great Pyranees since we have a coyote problem with my ducks.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new chickens as the mixed ones are truly the best and maybe, just maybe, try ducks in the future *wink wink*

Hi, welcome to BYC!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the chickens, they really are a lot of fun. Are you getting eggs yet?

Nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thank you NorthFLChick! We are not getting eggs yet, and I am actually starting to get a little concerned...My mother-n-law has some hens from the same brood and hers have been laying for a few weeks now.
