Hi,

First off, I'm not a "spring chicken" more like an old fart, lol. We haven't had chickens for a long time. I think it was 2002 we ordered 75 "day old" chicks from Ideal. At the time we had young kids and we all really enjoyed raising them.

Now we plan to build a new coop and just get around 6 pullets from TSC. Just for fun and fresh eggs. I love to hear a rooster crow, so I've been kicking around the idea of maybe getting a banty rooster too. Probably after the hens are older, may keep him in a separate cage. Still in the planning stages...

Hi and welcome to BYC. I quite like being an old fart - in fact I think i got some practice in way before my time :D

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Another consideration for a cockerel is to raise your pullets to laying age then find someone who is rehoming a friendly cockerel or rooster and adopt him. That way you can meet him and see how he is with humans and pullets/hens and avoid chicken dinner on the foot with a nasty boy.
