Hi I'm Ashley! I use to be a member of Backyard Chickens years ago. Our little farm is called Sweet Gum Minis and we're in Easley, SC.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Our first chickens, gosh that must have been almost 15 years ago now. When we first moved to our farm we got into chickens and I got my first incubator. We had laying hens, bantams and guineas. Our neighbors are too close for noisy guineas especially considering they liked to fly up on their roof and squawk so we sold them and haven't had them again.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We had a dozen pullets we raised from chicks, but we had a predator kill all but 7. They're almost old enough to start laying soon. We also have a hen who's over 2 and some ducks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 are Speckled Sussex, 2 are Easter Eggers and the other 3 are Sex-Links. My daughter and I nursed one of the Sex-Links back to health after the attack. We also recently took in a Buff Orpington who is over 2 years old. A friend of mine had her and she's slacked off laying and she has very limited space so we took her in. We also have 3 Blue Swedish ducks (2 blue hens and a black drake), a Crested Pekin drake and 3 baby Cayuga cross
.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I was a member years ago. I actually was googling some coop ideas and stumbled on it again and some of the watering systems reminded me of things I can do with the new coop. So I figured I'd join again.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We raise dairy goats, Mini-LaMancha dairy goats and have a small farm with 3 acres. I also paint, knit and crochet.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I think that's about it. I'm really looking forward to looking through the posts and getting to know the members and seeing your flocks and coops. Thanks for reading!
