Hello everyone, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I've always wanted to have chicken but for the longest time my wife said no, until recently she said I could get some as long as I had a coop for them. I don't think she new how fast my buddy and I can make things. In the span of one weekend I had a coop and brooding box built along with 5 little golden stars. So that's my quick story any tips would be helpful, but don't worry I've done my research so I'm not going in this blind.

Cheers

Welcome to BYC!

What a fun story!! I am sure your wife will come around soon once she sees those cute little fuzzy butts in the brooder.

If you do have any questions, feel free to ask. You can always stop by our learning center as well for lots of great tips and hints on raising your new flock.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new adventure!

Wow, good for you.. Any photos?? So glad you are on here.. :welcome

I will get photos up soon, but I was wondering if there was some way to tell the gender of my chicks?

You can post pictures in the What Breed Or Gender Is This forum, for most breeds by 8-10 weeks or so you should be fairly sure of what you have though some slow maturing roos will crop up after that, https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this Do you know what a Golden Star is, did they call it a Sex Link or what did they say on the sign for them? I just took the name to mean it was a Red or Buff Sex Link, but maybe not.
