I'm pretty new to chickens. My husband brought some home from our local feed store last October. I was pretty upset - I figured they were just another thing for me to take care of - now I love them!! He purchased 6 pullets and we got one rooster out of the bunch. We gave him a chance but after trying to attack my 2 year old twice (he did get a good scratch once), he had to go. Thankfully we had a friend who wanted him - so now he has a good home! My husband and I built a nice coop for them to live in and they are mostly free-range'ers. We have one barred rock, 2 rhode island reds, 1 buff orpington, and 1 ameracauna (which I have learned, from lurking here, that she would really be considered an Easter Egger). Four have started laying so far! We're still trying to talk the EE into laying - she's not going for it so far. Two weeks ago I went to another local feed store for "chick week" - bad idea....12 chicks later! I came out with 6 pullets - 2 EEs, 2 production reds, and 2 black sex-links - and 6 straight runs (they were buy 6 pullets, get 6 straight runs free). We're gonna work very hard with these guys so if we have any roosters, they will hopefully be friendlier! My parents gave us a large dog kennel so we're in the process of converting that into another coop!

Well, hello and welcome! From your story, you are fully addicted! You'll love it here......we all need to attend Chick-a-holics Anonomous meetings! haha

I also picked up twelve chicks from TSC, but they didn't have the variety that your store had......I picked up six straight run Silver Laced Wyandottes, and six red pullets.......They're about three weeks old now.

Glad to meet you,

Sharon
