Hello! My name is Lucy. My fiance Alex and I bought four two-day old chicks from our local farm store in February of 2015. Two Ameraucanas, one Standard Buff, and one White Brahma. Our buff was a runt with pasty butt from day one. She is a poor layer and seems to still be a bit slow, but we love her dearly, our "Babe." The brama, "Pelusa," is a decent layer and seems to enjoy life. She is a rather vocal/anxious bird and always is making some sort of warble noise. One of our Ameraucana's got very sick last year. She stopped eating and moved around. We tried in earnest to save her for a week (a vet visit, some induced vomiting, lots of hugs and healthy treats) but when her situation wasn't improving we had a friend come over and help ender her suffering. The other Ameraucana, "Antula," is our most consistent layer. She is the boss of the herd, often hoping over our fence and venturing in to the neighborhood. Recently she seems to have developed an issue in which she occasionally, and seemingly uncontrollably, walks backwards with her head ducked down. We gave her extra grub worms and that seemed to help but the issue has not completely resolved.
In February of 2018 we added two day-old chicks to our home, Salt & Peppercorn!
We appreciate this community and all it has done for us- giving us confidence with raising our girls!
