Hi, I'm a long-time BYC reader and now finally making things official. Here's my vital info!
Chicken deets:
I have 3 Leghorns who are spent hens / "ex-battery" hens. I've had them for almost a year. Sophia is the alpha, and Dorothy and Rose are her sidekicks. I started with 4 chickens, but we lost one in a heat wave. That was tough but now we have a temperature sensor in the coop.
The recovery process from factory life was intense, as they were in bad shape initially, but it's amazing to see them thriving now. I'm a big proponent of spent hen rescue and I'm happy to talk about that process if anyone has questions.
Favorite things:
My favorite thing about having chickens is getting to know their personalities. They've made so much progress in the past year. They're brave, goofy, persistent and nosy. And I also love that no matter what else is going on in my life, being around them is calming, and usually pretty entertaining. And the steady supply of eggs is a plus.
BYC:
I found BYC at a friend's recommendation, and it's been really helpful in figuring out how to give these chickens their best lives. I finally made an account because I have a few questions that don't seem to have been asked here. So I'll be around the forums. =)
