Hello! I've followed this site for a little while but am only now joining the forums... it was that warning about them being "addictive" that scared me off for a bit.

I was raised in a suburb with no chicken or garden experience until about 8 years ago. I got books, advice from friends and strangers, and embarked on organic gardening, chicken raising, seed saving, canning, and other homesteady things. Currently we have around 25 laying hens and 2 roosters. We have Ameraucanas, Australorps, Light Brahmas, Silver-Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, and New Hampshire Reds.

My husband works from home and I teach writing and lit part-time at a local university, and do volunteer literacy work. We've got four children between the ages of 9 and 4 and we homeschool them because it's fun. Life is good, and I'm grateful.

It's nice to join you!

Hello, running hen and family,

!

I was born in Staunton, so I know what a beautiful area you live in. You will love it here, so much to learn and so many friends to be made!

Edited because I misspelled Staunton!

No need to be afraid. We don't bite (yeah, sure, maybe you will be on this site 25 hours a day, SO WHAT?)
