hi from the uk

Hi :welcome Anthony

Glad you could join the flock! I'm from the UK too and have suffered before the same as you a fox attack. I'm sorry for your loss. I would just like to warn you that the fox will be back so please double secure your coop/run. The offending fox at mine returned for another go but thankfully my better half was on fox watch and it was quickly dispatched with.

Wishing you the best of luck In the future. Hope you enjoy BYC :frow

thank you all for the kind welcome, I'm In suburban Leicester but I have a sizeable garden. I would have ducks again yes but they are noisier than I expected, they also seemed to guzzle large quantities of layers pellets.I think I will concentrate on my hens for the time being. On the silver side I know how to butcher a duck.(I didn't eat them who knows what diseases foxes carry) the dogs thought Christmas had come threefold though. As for foxes, no think the rspca might have something to say, I would happily shoot the buggers. if I was allowed ! But I think the local swat team might object. I'm considering a visit to Twycross zoo and asking for a few bags of lion crap to spread round the garden. Its going to be a brave fox that enters that. I would love to know if anyone has any experience with a cockerel in a uk suburban area? I'm thinking a light Sussex cockerel and as holly is a light Sussex those two can make me babies ;-). It occurs to me that most blokes buy a motorbike for a midlife crisis , I got chickens! now I am wondering why I bought a house in suburbia.

peace all

tom

So sorry for your losses. It is never easy to lose our feathered friends.

But we do welcome you to our flock! Ask any questions you may have. :-)

As long as you have a licence/certificate for the gun and its a safe shot you are well within your rights to shoot them on your own property. My other half is shooting man so has all this and shot our offending one in the garden. We do live in a semi rural village though. RSPCA can't do anything to stop you. A quick google search should bring you people up who will come round and shoot them for you. Just in our village and surrounding fields my other half has dispatched maybe 20 foxes in the last year alone.

I'm not sure on cockerels in suburban areas but I'm sure a quick call to the council wouldn't hurt. I'm sure there are no laws saying no I think it's just if people start to complain about the crowing.

I'm also sure chicken keeping is a far safer mid life crisis than a fast motorbike!!

Happy chicken keeping :thumbsup
