Last September we were given a barred rock hen and 4 pheonix hens and a Toulouse goose. All fully grown and laying. With as many eggs as we go through we knew we needed to get more hens. In October we purchase 20 chicks a mix of barred rock, buffs, silver laced, ameraucana, & rhode island reds. We have just recently aquired a stray buff that is recovering from a dog bite and another phoenix hen and her 6 chicks. Can't wait for the 20 new girls to start laying. Being in Sunny Arizona we have an open air style coop made from chain link dog panels that has a solid cover over part of the pen. With a heat lamp for our cooler nights. We are hoping to build a shed style coop this spring with a large run for the girls and a bigger dunk pond for our goose. I wish I would have found this site months ago when we started with the chicks as I have one that is nuerologic. Looks like I will be spending alot of free time reading.
