Welcome to BYC - however you got here - from California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills!
I have built coops, bought coop kits, contracted to have a coop built, and then moved, unable to take anything but the coop kit versions with me. Luckily, the property I bought had an old carport type garage on it, which I had a contractor transmogrify into a huge coop for my flock. (I use the kit coops now for juvenile grow-out coops until chicks out of the brooder are old and big enough to join the flock.)
The most pleasure I got was from building my own, regardless of how funky they looked. Luckily, chickens don't care how their coop looks.
Keep that in mind as you begin to build - don't get obsessive about perfection.
